Strange News from Mars

Which new album can you name, with the following musicians playing together: Tommy Mars, Bruce Fowler, Jimmy Carl Black, Ed Mann and Arthur Barrow? Jon Larsen’s new album, which is about to be released in September! The flamenco and jazz-guitarist Larsen lists Django Reinhardt, Piazzolla and of course Frank Zappa as his masters. Furthermore, his new album is promoted as Zappa-inspired compositions. With a line-up like that, it had better be! The title of the album is Strange News From Mars

Hello friends - amazing how info is flowing on the internet! And I am very happy about that! Yes, it's true about my new CD project: it is indeed very inspired by FZ! However, no cover tunes, all texts and music are new compositions. The consept of the project is the very first surrealistic expedition to the red planet, Mars. With this hand picked combo or crew of first class surrealists (Mars, Fowler, Barrow, Mann, Black, etc)we are on our way in the spece ship Big Ear 3 - exploring three of the major mysteries of mankind...

I am writing a blog on the project on www.myspace.com/jonlarsenguitar - and will keep it updated all along. Also I have lots of photos from the recording there...The release is set to 3 September 2007.

I had the pleasure of attending to four or five FZ concerts (1976- )in Norway, but after that I have live for a quarter of a century studying gypsy guitar music. However, now I feel more like combining the two. Having been allowed to work and play with the incredible Zappa alumni I feel like the luckiest composer in the solar system.
